So don’t go using your knife as a screwdriver, your multi-tool to split rocks, or your pack to contain a wild hyena. In other words, use common sense and don’t do stupid things. Knives, multi-tools, gear, and other sharp pointy items should be maintained properly with routine cleaning, oiling, and sharpening. Blades are cutting utensils and are not for prying or other applications outside of its intended use. Packs should be cleaned routinely to remove dirt and foreign materials and substances that may increase wear on the material. You don’t want your friends or enemies smelling you before they see you.
