About Luminox

From 40,000 feet in a jet tearing over the clouds at Mach 1 to the deserts of the most hostile regions on the globe, Luminox watches have accompanied servicemembers into battle from all branches.

A little history: Luminox got started with their original Navy SEAL watch, the model 3001. Their classic frogman’s timepiece has been selling strong since 1993. Soon, Luminox took to the skies with a watch for USAF pilots of the stealthy, bat-like F-117 Nighthawk. For 20 years, and by land, sea, and air, Luminox has led the mission to create standard equipment timepieces for every military and law enforcement community.

Luminox’s self-powered illumination allows you to view time no matter what the light level is, even in complete darkness. Up to 25 years of darkness, as a point of fact. And with a huge variety of case options, bezels, band choices, and more, you can be sure to find the Luminox watch that perfectly fits your preference, your style, and your mission.

All Luminox watches must undergo additional manufacturing steps that other watches do not require. The Luminox self-powered illumination system must be installed into each and every watch. It is a costly and time consuming endeavor but it is what makes Luminox watches special.

GovX.com is an authorized Luminox retailer. Your watch is warranted for 2 years from the date of purchase against any and all manufacturer's defects. Any damage to the watch resulting from normal or extreme use is not covered under the original manufacturer's warranty. Luminox Technology

The unique Luminox Light Technology ensure at-a-glance visibility – in fact, the technology Luminox watches provide a constant glow 24/7, no matter what the conditions are, for up to 25 years. Most other watches use luminescent paint that has to be charged by a light source and fades very quickly, or a “push to light” system, where you push a button for battery-driven illumination.

Luminox uses a proprietary technology, formerly reserved for the military, that makes Luminox watches literally stand out. Each Luminox watch features tiny gas lights (borosilicate glass capsules), which are always lit, on the hands, hour markers and when necessary, bezels. As a result of this unique technology, Luminox watches are always readable at a glance, no matter what the conditions are.

The Luminox Light Technology system is assembled by hand in each and every watch. Though more complicated, expensive and time consuming than normal luminescence, it is one of the things that makes Luminox watches special. This unique technology and the additional quality control steps Luminox mandates require extraordinary attention to detail and care in manufacturing. All Luminox watches are Swiss-made.

History

Like many other American success stories, Luminox came from a forward-thinking individual realizing a need in the market and meeting it. Barry Cohen, a watch industry veteran, came across a Swiss self-powered illumination system and knew that it would make watches more visible and easier to read in low or no light situations. He asked his friend Richard Timbo if he would like to join him. Luminox was born in 1989 (Lumi is Latin for light while Nox is Latin for night), driven by a commitment to offer cutting-edge luminescence and readability in its line of high-performance sports watches.

After Luminox provided the watches to the SEALs, Luminox began marketing the watch across the country and the world. Luminox was then approached by US Air Force pilots flying the F-117 Nighthawk fighter jet — Luminox developed a watch for these pilots and contacted Lockheed Martin, which turned into an exclusive arrangement to produce Lockheed Martin timepieces.

Throughout the following 20 years, Luminox has never strayed from its mission and this has been confirmed and validated by the many elite military and law enforcement units that have adopted Luminox as standard equipment. The man on the street has shown particular interest in Luminox, figuring rightly that if the watches are designed for and used by the Navy SEALs, they have to be able to stand up to every day use.

From here on, Luminox remains determined to continue combining cutting edge technology, forward-thinking design and extreme performance. Luminox delivers, when and where it counts. It’s our frame of mind.

Luminox Light Technology

Luminox’ self-powered illumination (LLT) allows one to view time at-a-glance, no matter what the light level, even in complete darkness – up to 25 years of complete darkness, in fact. Being able to read time effortlessly under any and all circumstances fills a need for various military and law enforcement groups, which is why the U.S. Navy SEALProcurement officers came to us asking us to create dive watches for them for night missions. It is also why U.S. Air Force pilots flying the F-117 Nighthawk™ Stealth Jets approached us. These are only two of many groups of “heroes” that truly understand and appreciate the inherent benefit of wearing a Luminox timepiece. As for the rest of the population: When was the last time you had to fumble for a light switch or a button on your watch in the dead of night? Wear a Luminox for a week and you won’t want to miss it.
