The last thing you want to worry about is your feet when you’re on the job. For police, EMS professionals, and military individuals who spend hours at a time standing and patrolling, it’s essential to have a pair of boots that won’t let you down. Here are five member-favorite choices from the GovX catalog worth a try. Your feet will thank you.
With its slip-resistant outsole, this boot is a favorite among EMS members who work on the scenes of violent crimes. The moisture-wicking AEGIS antimicrobial protection offers another level of comfort and defense, and has Original SWAT’s signature lightweight construction at only 36 ounces per boot. And, they’re at a price that won’t bust your wallet open either.
I had just gotten a pair of the Original SWAT slip-on boots and loved them. So I figured I needed a new pair of boots with a little more ankle support too so I decided to try these out. After 18 years in EMS, military, and flight I have been through quite a few different brands and styles of boots. Just in the few shifts I have worn these I can say they are at least a match for some of the more expensive brands I have tried. Easy on and off, comfortable first fit, and little to no break in. For the price that is pretty great. – Chris S.
A rugged and breathable tactical boot made in collaboration with Viking Tactics gear, the XPRT 2.0 has the feel of a European hiking boot. It runs a little narrow, as footwear from that part of the world tends to, but fortunately 5.11 offers wide sizing options for all you big-footed Americans out there. HELCOR leather, ripstop nylon, and a breathable waterproof membrane combine into a boot that’s ready for combat.
I went with the wide fit as recommended and they fit perfectly. I wear a 10 1/2 dress shoe/11 tennis shoe, so I went with 11W with these. Roomy in the toe without being too roomy which I like. Feels great whether I'm wearing a 3 season sock or a thick winter sock. Did not seem to need much break-in time either. Well done, 5.11! – Marc S.
A 7.5-inch, durable boot features a fiberglass shank for plenty of support but less weight. You can customize your comfort by removing the insole and including one of your choice, and the side zipper means you can keep the laces tied to your preference and not have to worry about wrapping them up every time you put them on. The nylon upper allows for plenty of flexibility in the ankle. We’ve heard members talk about wearing them for 10 hours straight right out of the box, though the customer below put them through a brief break-in period.
I normally buy different boots every year for work and I normally stick to the military issued boots, Bates, since that is what I am used to. I decided to change it up and I have no complaints. I've worn these boots for a couple weeks now and they are very comfortable. I'm constantly standing for my profession and never felt anything. A little discomfort at first but after breaking them in they are exactly what I was looking for. – Warren S.
The unique entry on this list, the LALOs are designed in conjunction with US special forces operators. LALO boasts that the composite plate and TPU outsole produces a quiet footfall that’s stealthy, though some members are a little up in the air about that particular feature. Described as “amazing for the concrete jungle” by some, this pair has a compression molded midsole and insole, and a lightweight, slip-resistant outsole. You can even rock the water-shedding Amphibian version with included drainage ports.
I work as a SWAT breacher/medic, and routinely carry upwards of 60-70lbs of gear during entries (tools, armor, ammo, etc.). I have worn boots from many other big name companies, and at the end of the day my feet would be destroyed. I have had the Shadows for a few months now, been active all summer in them (from work to trail running, to hiking) and I have had ZERO problems. My feet (while tired) are not destroyed at the end of the day, and I have found this to be a good purchase in all situations thus far. Eventually I will be purchasing a pair in the black color for patrol use. – Erik W.
With a leg height of 8 inches, the Black Eagle from HAIX is the tallest and most formidable entry on this list. Abrasion resistant and breathable inner lining keeps you dry and comfortable. Plus, HAIX wearers are able to conserve energy with a construction that supports the center of your heel, prevents overpronation, and performs well especially on uneven surfaces.
I have tried every brand of boot out there but they all fell short in one way or another. I came across these HAIX boots on GovX.com and decided to give them a try because of the style, and they have been amazing! I am on my feet 12-16 hours a day and they remain comfortable. I have submerged them in water past my ankle and my feet stayed dry, and they show absolutely no signs of wear after wearing them daily for almost 2 months. Highly recommend this boot! – Shane L.
