Marine veteran John Preston traded his rifle for a guitar, and launched a musical career dedicated to supporting his fellow veterans. In honor of his friend and comrade Sgt. Charles Strong, John is releasing a new EP and video. Sgt. Strong was killed last September in an insider attack in Afghanistan. His wife Taylor was expecting their first child at the time of his death. Proceeds from the EP’s sale will go to Sgt. Strong’s family, with the goal of creating a nonprofit to help the children of fallen heroes. Learn about the production of this new song and the video, which features Sgt. Strong’s wife Taylor, as herself.
Day to Night – John Preston
Charles was killed just weeks before our daughter was born. It’s hard to put into words exactly the type of man Charles was. He was a man whom many people would look up to. He was driven, intelligent, charismatic, and someone who would not take no for an answer. He was the type of person who could do anything when he put his mind to it, whether it was working on the yard, his truck, building guns, or even becoming a Marine. And he was a family man, through and through. A dedicated husband with a genuine heart. He was everyone’s “go-to” guy, if ever they had a question or needed help fixing something. People referred to him as “invincible,” and a “man amongst men,” which made it so hard for friends and family alike to believe he was gone.

We are still fighting a war! There are Marines in Iraq, right now. There are Marines in Afghanistan, right now. There are marines in Syria, right now. Charles Strong was killed in combat in Afghanistan only one year ago. Three years after the war was supposedly “over.” This song’s goal is to remind you of those facts. And to remind you that marines, soldiers, airmen, and sailors are people with families, and they’re the sole reason you are able to wake up in the morning to get your damn Starbucks.
There are massacres happening on the other side of the world right now, people killing others over what they believe or don’t believe. And what people don’t understand is that there are Americans out there right now, as you read these words, who are fighting the enemy so they don’t make this country a target. We will not bow to madness. We will eradicate the enemy whether we make the news or not. While you’re wondering if Kim and Kanye’s outfits matched today, remembers there’s a warrior who has the enemy in his sights.
Sgt. Strong was one of those warriors. And this song is for him.
