Optrix PhotoProX - Taking Things Deeper

Optrix PhotoProX - Taking Things Deeper

I was hunched over experiencing mind-blowing pain as the blood made its way from the ruptured cavity inside my skull.

The pressurized blood was painfully working its way out of my body by way of my nose and landing on the floor of the emergency room. As the mix of blood and clear fluid dripped from my nose I tried explain to the doctor what a "Sinus Squeeze" was and how I suffered one while testing a new Optrix case off the coast of Laguna Beach Ca.

It was me against the Optrix PhotoProX and I lost. Now I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses, but I did have a bit of a head cold at the time.

I took the Optrix ProX case much deeper than it was rated for and clearly much deeper than my head was ready for. How deep? I actually don't know. It's not uncommon for me to free dive deeper than 60' and I know I was getting close to that when my sinus popped, but the pain was so intense I had to abandon the experiment.

After all of the painkillers wore off I figured I had better write up a small review about this seemingly indestructible case.

Deep Diving Into Action Sports Photography

So Optrix didn't just enter the "waterproof your phone" market, it dove deep into the "Action Sports" camera and video market by delivering an iPhone case, and a set of accessories, so robust and advanced that they will give any action camera company a run for their money.

With its polycarbonate case the Optrix PhotoProX takes your phone deeper than the rest. In the world of diving the Optrix case can go an entire atmosphere, which is 33 feet. For you Army types who don't go near the water the Optrix case can also take a 30-foot back dive onto the concrete and still play your favorite Justin Bieber track. Now that's hardcore!

Besides its rugged capabilities Optrix also thought to work the more delicate side of things as well. Instead of just capturing your most precious and adventurous moments in life through a piece of plastic, Optrix PhotoProX includes a variety of quality glass lenses so that your pictures look professionally done.

  • Macro Lens - Delivers 10X magnification from 10-25mm away
  • Zoom Lens - Extends your phones lense 2X
  • Fisheye Lens - Stretches your view to 175 degrees for unique shots
  • Flat Lens - Super clear underwater shots

Besides the lenses, Optrix also provides a bunch of accessories allowing you to capture crazy footage anywhere. Here are a few of my favorites.

As Technology Advances, So Does Your Active Life

If you've read any of my stuff then you know I don't think about a piece of gear as "gear" I think about it as a new "capability" or "possibility" in life. When I got this Optrix kit from the good people of GovX I immediately wanted to take it outside.

  • Within days I found myself strapping on the chest mount and capturing video of my son and I scrambling the reefs of the Pacific Coast.
  • Zoom Lens - Extends your phone's lens 2X
  • A week later I took my family mountain biking so that I could capture some action footage of us on the trail.
  • And then, of course, it drove me into cool deep waters inhabited by Calico Bass so that I could go spear fishing with a good friend and see how deep I could dive it down.

Sure, I ended up taking on a minor injury, but I'll take sitting in the ER over sitting in my living room any day.

Get out and get some!

One word, Bro- SUDAFED..... Diver's candy.. as a SCUBA Instructor, I could not have sinus situations - or head colds....those little red pills would keep me clear except for the very worst coldbugs invading my head.

In deed - I thought I was good, but clearly wasn't. Lesson learned the hard way... again!
